INSULATED COPPER WIRE
What is the difference between non-ferrous and ferrous metal?
Ferrous metals contain iron, and non-ferrous metals don’t.
Ferrous metals contain iron, and are known for their strength. Think steel, stainless steel, carbon steel, cast iron.
How to detect a Ferrous Metal
Really, Really simple. Get a magnet. Iron is attracted to a magnet and if there is any attraction then you have a ferrous metal.
Ferrous metals may rust if left out in the elements for a short or long period of time. Except stainless steel for example, because of chromium was added to the metal during the processing.
Examples of ferrous metals are:
- Cast iron
- Steel Carbon

- just plain Steel
Non-ferrous metals do not contain any iron. So, they have less chance of corrosion. A few examples of non-ferrous metals are copper, aluminum and aluminum alloys. Non-ferrous metals also include brass, tin, lead, and zinc. non-ferrous metals are non-magnetic.
Examples of non-ferrous metals are:
